SCRiPTS (Sol-gel Centre for Research on Inorganic Powders and Thin films Synthesis)

The Department of Inorganic and Physical Chemistry of Ghent University, Belgium, undertakes interdisciplinary activities in the field of inorganic and physical chemistry. SCRiPTS, the Research Group on Solid State Chemistry, has activities in the broad field of solid state chemistry related to the synthesis, properties and applications of inorganic and ceramic materials. The research group forms part of the interdisciplinary Coordinator Centre for Materials Science and Engineering (CMSE).

The group performs research into solution based synthesis routes for the preparation of ceramic coatings (Prof. I Van Driessche) and nanoparticles (Prof. K De Buysser), with a focus on the development of water-based, environmentally friendly precursor solutions. Energy-related applications include high temperature superconductors, photocatalytic coatings and solid oxide fuel cells.

Ghent coordinated the FP7 project EFECTS, in which inkjet printing was combined with environmentally friendly synthesis routes for functional oxide coatings and devices, and it is a partner in EUROTAPES.
