The Institute of Materials Science of Barcelona (ICMAB) is a research institute of the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC), the largest research organization in Spain focusing on basic and applied research. ICMAB's mission is 'to generate new knowledge in Materials Science and transfer it to the society, particularly to industry within the European Research Area'.

One of the Institute's main research themes is 'materials for energy and environment', which includes the development of superconducting materials and electrical power applications, and activities on energy harvesting, storage, fuel use, sensing and catalysis.

ICMAB is currently coordinating the FP7 project EUROTAPES, leading the European development of superconducting coated conductors. Previously ICMAB was a partner in EFECTS, implementing inkjet printing for multiferroics, superconductors and device structures.
