Tsinghua University

Tsinghua University was established in 1911, evolving over the years into a comprehensive research institution and one of China's most renowned universities, with a particular emphasis on scientific research.

The Department of Thermal Engineering focuses on energy research and utilization, clean combustion techniques, optimisation and simulation of power systems and devices, and power engineering and control.

Tsinghua has also addressed the hot topic of developing low-carbon energy to address climate change by establishing a Low Carbon Energy University Alliance (LCEUA) with the Universiity of Cambridge and MIT, with the aim of strengthening cooperation, building shared platforms and resources. Tripartite projects include the development of direct carbon fuel cells and superconducting cables.
